BEIGATTI

A MAINE COON CATTERY

About us

We (Chris and Jo-Ann) live in the beautiful Schoharie Valley of upstate New York, about 3 hours north of New York City.

We fell in love with Maine Coon cats after seeing them at various cat shows.  We already had a couple of rescued cats from the local shelter as well as two Ragdoll cats, but once we saw the Maine Coon, we knew we had to have one.

Our first Maine Coon was Loxly Lunar Eclipse, whom we called "Maverick."  Maverick was neutered, and was shown in a class specifically for altered cats called "premiership."  Mav taught us how to show, enduring countless showbaths in the kitchen sink (and, occasionally in hotel sinks, friends' bathtubs, etc.).    Maverick was solid black, and many spectators would remark, "I didn't know they came in black!"

Once Maverick was done with his show career, we decided we wanted to try to breed these beautiful cats.  We needed a cattery name, and Chris suggested we choose an Italian name for the cattery.  With the help of many friends and family, we came up with the name "Beigatti" - Italian for "beautiful cats."

We have a very small cattery with only a couple of litters per year.  We do not have a cattery with cages - our kittens are born in the bathroom, and once they have their first set of shots, they are taught their manners by the rest of the cats in the house.  We spend a great deal of time socializing them.  They crawl in cupboards, hide under furniture, and race up and down the stairs.  At 12 weeks, they're ready to go to their forever homes.
