Things have been very quiet up here on the hill.  No one is sick, in heat, pregnant, giving birth or doing anything crazy...or rather, beyond the "norm" of craziness.  I am waiting for Tasha to decide it is time to be a mom, and the cat show season is pretty quiet right now.  A good time to talk about Alex.

Alex is the resident Ragdoll...yes, that is a breed of cat.  They are very large, fluffy, placid cats...placid to the point that we call Alex our resident speed bump.  He is always in the way, always sprawled out on the floor, in the hallway, on the bed.  He is not as "in your face" as the Maine Coons, he is happy to remain sprawled on the floor wherever the action is.

Alex has a very important job in the cattery.  He helps socialize the kittens.  They crawl on him, bite his ears, jump with their little paws around his neck, and try to wrestle with him.  Alex is so gentle.  He lets the kittens do whatever they want without so much as a harsh glance.  When we purchase a new kitten, we get him used to the other cats by first introducing him to Alex.  The baby will hiss and growl at him, and Alex just flops on the floor and waits for the new kitten to come over and explore.

Facts about Ragdolls:

They are very large.  My Alex is 20 lbs...and with the long fur, he looks enormous

They come in all "pointed" colors...like the Siamese:  sealpoint, bluepoint, creampoint, etc.

Because they are "pointed," they all have blue eyes.

They come in 3 patterns:  Solid, mitted and  bicolor

Alex is a sealpoint bicolor.

Look for more pictures of Alex throughout these pages.

One of my biggest delights is getting pictures from the people who have given my babies wonderful "forever" homes.  Last week I heard from Lynda, mom to Beigatti Leonardo da Vinci (Leo).  Leo is a big, fluffy pile of love living the good life in Albany, NY.  His color/pattern is called "red-silver classic tabby with white."  That means he has the coloring of a creamsicle!  Here is is as a baby (on the left with his sisters)

and here he is at age 4:
